Situated near the stunning crest of the Sierra Nevada mountains in the High
Sierra region of California,
the town of Mammoth Lakes is celebrated for its gorgeous landscape of lakes, mountains
and forests. Incorporated in 1984, Mammoth Lakes is a new town which is rapidly
emerging as a popular destination for outdoor adventurers. Mammoth
Mountain Ski Area serves as the chief winter attraction and has established
itself as one of the finest downhill ski resorts in the nation. Given that Mammoth
Lakes is also located in the Inyo
National Forest, camping, hiking and cross-country skiing draw many visitors
to the area. Besides sporting activities, the town offers an abundance of ethnic
restaurants, unique gift shops and a wide selection of lodging. Every July, Mammoth
Lakes comes alive with the sound of music during the Jazz
Jubilee. Zydeco, swing and big band music are performed by renowned jazz musicians
in a variety of venues throughout the town.
